Democracy for sale

California Republican Duke Cunningham has resigned from the House of Representatives. This morning Cunningham plead guilty to four counts of conspiracy (mail fraud, wire fraud, bribery of public official and accepting bribes) and one count of tax evasion.

As usual, The Onion nails it.

  • Of course, DeLay will probably not be convicted. Sure, this rep is a loser, but there is a difference between indictment and conviction, especially if the DA is of the opposing party.

  • Who knows about DeLay, he's facing pretty serious charges also. Republicans are being charged with legitimate crimes against the public--accepting bribes to pressure the Defense Dept is no joke. It could be worse I guess, I mean he could have lied about a beedge.

  • There is a difference between the seriousness of the charge and the nature of the evidence. We'll see.
