Hollywood: "WE HAVE OPINIONS"

The only thing lacking from this year's class of critically acclaimed films was another factually void Michael Moore piece (George Clooney tried, but he had enough... integrity to classify his movies as fiction unlike Mr. Moore).

Here are the "polemic of the year" contenders and Hollywood's heavyhanded, obtuse opinion (note, I am not criticizing the artistic quality of any of these films):
  • Syriana: "Oil is bad! Bad, Bad, Bad! We kill innocent people because we like SUVs."
  • Brokeback Mountain: "Anyone can be gay. Even heterosexual stereotypes."
  • The Constant Gardener: "Pharmaceutical companies are evil, and their drugs are no different than those found in Compton."
  • Good Night and Good Luck: "McCarthyism was worse than Communism or the Soviet Union. McCarthyists would deny security clearance to Communists during the Cold War!! For shame! For shame!"
I mean, I love movies. Everything about them. I even like George Clooney with his meager intellect. But I don't want to be treated to heavy handed (and wrong) politicking on a Sunday afternoon... and I'm not alone.

Thank God for SciFi.
